Checkmate
was dedicated on a beautiful December day.

Bob Lowry, representing the Public Art
Committee, was the master of ceremonies.

Karen Oxman represented
the Golden City Council and thanked the Civic Foundation and the
Rotary Club for the financial support that enabled Golden to acquire
this piece.

The sculptor, Herb
Mignery, discussed the meaning and structure of the piece.

Herb described the
process of using an older, seasoned horse to train a young horse.

The ceremony
represented the culmination of several years of labor on the part of
Rotary President Bob Short. It was Bob who originally spotted
the piece in a hotel in Houston and arranged for Golden to acquire it.
