Group Study Exchange from South Africa

The Team (A Rotarian Leader and four young professionals) will be hosted by Golden and Evergreen Rotary Clubs from the nights of April 5 through April 8, then we will transfer them to Lakewood Rotary Club at the end of their Vocational Day on April 9th.

Andy was born in Norwich England in 1957. In 1979 Andy married Lesley and they emigrated to South Africa in 1982.  After spending 25 years as a senior manger and consultant with various engineering organizations in Johannesburg, Andy and Lesley moved to Port Elizabeth where he joined Donkin Fans progressing from Quality Manager to National Sales Manager. He was appointed a Director in 2005.

In March 2007 he and Lesley purchased “The Brewmaster” Bar and Restaurant in Port Elizabeth.  Andy joined the Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth in 1998 and has served on the board for the past 7 years, the last 4 as Secretary. Andy is the current President Elect and is a District trainer. He is also the incoming Outbound Chairman for GSE for District 9320. 

Andy and Lesley have 2 children, Kirsty 26, an Interior Designer and Lee 24, who has just qualified in Sports Management  Andy enjoys spending time with close friends, watching movies and sport and is an avid reader, all books, all authors.
 

Pierre du Toit Attorney 37 Male Married/3 Children
Pierre was born and raised in Klerksdorp in the Northwest Province. 
After completing his National Service with the South African Air Force, he studied management accounting at the Potchefstroom University for CHE, obtaining an honours degree in 1993. Whilst working for Transnet, as financial analyst, and later Arthur Andersen, as tax consultant, he studied law at the University of South Africa.

Upon attaining his B.Proc degree, and after completing two years of legal articles, he was admitted as attorney, conveyancer and notary public of the High Court of South Africa in 1999. Pierre is currently a partner in the same well-established law firm in Klerksdorp where his articles commenced. His fields of practice include litigation in the Magistrate’s and High Court, as well as general notarial, commercial and property law. He is awaiting his appointment as Commissioner of the Small Claims Court.

Pierre has been married to Lizie, also an attorney, for 14 years. They have three children; Katie (12), Clara (9) and Christiaan (7).  Pierre is actively involved in his church, plays golf and enjoys reading non-fiction and watching movies of all kinds. He spends most of his free time with his family, and is a keen sports enthusiast.
 

Kim Wasserfall Social Worker 27 Female Married
Kim was born in Port Elizabeth where she attended Alexander Road High School matriculating in 1997. In April 1998 she joined First National Bank where she worked until she decided to further her studies in 2000. Kim obtained a BA in Social Work from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in 2002. She returned in 2004 to complete her fourth year and gain her honours. After working as a social worker for a year, Kim felt called to study theology and did a Certificate in Theology at the Word of Faith Bible College in Port Elizabeth. It was while completing this course that Kim met her husband Craig, six months later they got engaged, and nine months later (on the 24th March 2007) they were married. It was also during this time that Kim was offered at ACVV, heading up their street child project. Kim has held this position since October 2007. Besides working and adjusting to newly married life, Kim’s interests include reading absolutely anything she can get her hands on, scrap booking, listening to music, and talking to people. Her other loves are her family and pets and she tries to spend as much time as possible with both. 
 
Sazi Nyikana Civil Engineer 29 Male Single
Sazi was born, and grew up in Mayipase village, which is approximately 20km outside of King Williams Town in the Eastern Cape. He completed his school career in 1994 and enrolled at the University of Cape Town. In 1999 Sazi obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He began working at Uhambiso Consult (Pty) Ltd in January 2000 as an Engineer In-Training. In 2001 Sazi became a director at Uhambiso Consult. He specialises in planning, design and construction management in Municipal Engineering Services and Bulk Infrastructure Services. Presently he is completing an application for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). Sazi’s other short term goal is to obtain a Masters Degree in Water Engineering. Although unmarried and not having any children Sazi enjoys a close relationship with his parents and three siblings: Khaya (27), Kuselo (23) and Odwa (19).He enjoys playing chess, listening to jazz music and reading civil engineering journals.
 
Joe Orsmond Teacher 27 Male Single
Joe was born in the small Eastern Cape city of Grahamstown. He attended one of the local private schools (Kingswood College) and matriculated in 1998. After a short while working in the United Kingdom, he returned to Grahamstown where he attended Rhodes University. He graduated with a BA (English and History) as well as his BA Honours (History) before obtaining a teaching qualification (PGCSE) in 2004. Since 2005 he has been a permanent member of the English department at Kingswood College. He has recently been asked to teach three History classes and is an Assistant House-person in one of the school's residences. He is fully involved in the multifaceted life of the school, and is in charge of Boys Tennis, Model Engineering and the General Knowledge Quiz. He also participates in the outdoor education program at Kingswood College. Joe is passionate about his interests and enjoys reading, listening to music, radio-controlled aircraft, soccer and swimming. He has recently discovered bicycle touring and can often be seen heading for the local mountains with a tent and sleeping bag strapped behind him.
